Global Missions: Reaching the Unreached

Part of the Corazón Ministries mission is to send Hispanic and Latinos into the mission field. By the grace of God, we recently had the opportunity to send two Hispanic pastors to experience global missions through the pastoral grants offered at our Until He Returns bilingual missions conference.

One of these pastors, a young man from Austin, Texas, shared his desire to serve in Southeast Asia. After prayer and careful consideration, I joined him. Together we traveled to the city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. We connected with the ministry of Christar, who introduced us to one of their missionaries who has been faithfully serving in Malaysia for the past twelve years.

Our time in Malaysia was filled with a variety of ministry opportunities; including serving children with disabilities through horse therapy, starting conversations in coffee shops, restaurants, and parks, meeting both local believers and nonbelievers, and spending time with members of the missionary team of Christar, who are serving full-time.

One highlight was meeting believers in Christ who shared their stories of persecution for their faith. It was both humbling and eye-opening to learn what it means to follow Jesus in a predominantly Muslim country. We got to see how much time and effort it takes to build meaningful relationships with the Malay people.

We also had the privilege of connecting with missionaries from Frontiers, who are mobilizing Latinos to reach Muslims for Christ in different countries. We joined a missionary training alongside believers from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Cuba. It was a joy to hear about their ministries, to pray for one another, share meals, and worship God together. Pastor Travis and I were deeply moved to witness our fellow Latinos being equipped and sent out in His name.

This trip shook me to my core. I returned with a renewed vision of global missions and a deeper awareness of what God is doing around the world through His church. My prayer and goal is to continue sharing this experience here in Tucson and to keep encouraging and equipping Latinos to take the Gospel to the nations.
